Lairs on a map

How a map's author lays the wilds' lairs in the map editor.

In the map editor the Wilds tool (T) lays a lair of the kind picked, with its twin on the rival’s half while mirror is on; a click on a lair removes it.

  • A troll sleeps in the forest; a dashed square shows the forest that falls when it wakes.
  • A goblin band sleeps at a forest’s edge.
  • A shark pod sleeps in water, with water all round.
  • Untouched, a map has the generator’s lairs, played only when a private match picks the Wilds.
  • A map with lairs of its author’s always plays with the Wilds; No lairs makes it never do; The generator’s lairs goes back.
  • A lair must stand 16 cells or more from both castles and out of their provinces; lairs that differ between the halves only warn.
  • A lair wakes when a unit comes near or, if its author set a minute, at that minute of the match: until then it sleeps through anyone near, and once it has slept again it wakes for the nearest unit like the rest.

The same panel gives the map its time of year.

Tip: The Maps page marks a map with its author’s lairs: it plays the Wilds, so it is never rated.
